ABSTRACT
This volume of the SJP is dedicated to our colleague, friend and teacher Pascual Rivas Carrera, on the occasion of his retirement in September 2015. The contents of this volume in some way reflect Pascual Rivas’ professional career, not because they correspond to paleontological topics that he has worked on, as in several cases, but because they have been carried out by a large group of paleontologists who believe that he deserves a recognition at the end of his career. It is a “book of friends” that honors a university professor who dedicated a lot of effort to the development of Spanish paleontology, and a great deal of cordiality to promote good relations between the members of our scientific community. Works on morphology, taxonomy, taphonomy, palaeoecology, paleobiogeography, high-resolution stratigraphy, socio-economic development, and conceptual history of paleontology have been gathered here. Very different groups of fossils are treated, from ages that go from Cambrian to Quaternary. These articles can be seen as a representation of the diversity of themes and approaches that our science has reached in Spain, diversity that is largely due to the scientific and institutional work of Pascual and other paleontologists of his generation.
